Alcoa Brazil: Rondon bauxite project to focus on exports

Brazilian aluminum company CBA is expected to complete a feasibility study for the Rondon bauxite project by the end of 2022 while seeking strategic partners worldwide, Fastmarkets reported.

We expect the process to take about 18 months or until the end of next year," Luciano Alves, the company's chief financial officer, said in a news release. At that point we will be able to make a decision and perhaps start implementation."

The investment required for the project is estimated at R$2 billion (US$382 million), and the Rondon bauxite project is planned to start operations with an annual capacity of 4.5 million tons per year, with a final capacity of 18 million tons per year after the completion of three phases of surveys.

The Rondon bauxite mine is said to be an open pit bauxite mine located in northern Brazil, similar to the Paragominas and MRN bauxite mines. The project will focus on exports when operational.
